VISTA

I recently had a chance to install a Windows Vista Ultimate Editon to a computer I am working on. The software was just a copy of the original Vista purchased in the Philippines. Nevertheless, we manage somehow to obtain a crack that can register the copy to Microsoft. Luckily, installation turned out pretty well. I was able to get all the latest updates for that version of windows. Upon installation of the OS, I had a sneak peek of what Vista has to offer. One thing very noticeable is the awesome graphics quality. This could be attributed to the very high video memory requirement(1GB minimum requirement) for Vista Ultimate Edition. It has this one feature which utilizes such high memory, the Windows Aero with Windows Flip Navigation. It is similar to the way we switch from one window to another in MAC computers. Another feature which is kinda cool for me is the fact that

you can change the OS language easily without formatting. But first you have to install the language pack of your desired language. This is again another feature similar to MAC. It is also very obvious that they tighten up the security of Vista. But it is a little annoying sometimes when a lot of confirmation dialog boxes pop up in every action and task you execute. The Windows Defender, Windows Media Center and Internet Explorer 7 are already preinstalled. I haven't seen yet the other editions of vista. But I heard this one is the most complete of them all in terms of features.

I heard from the news that Microsoft will stop issuing updates for Windows XP this year. In fact they have already released the last Service Pack for XP. This , in effect will force a lot of Windows XP users to upgrade to Vista. For me I am still contented with XP functionality-wise.

At home and at work, I still use XP. There is no compelling reason yet for me to upgrade to Vista. But later on I am planning to jump into the MAC bandwagon. Perhaps I can just add Vista on one of my partitions just for the sake of studying the OS. Anyway it can be done neatly in MAC.
